SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—The Sioux Falls Stampede came back from a week-and-a-half winter break to clench a 4-2 victory over the Sioux City Musketeers Wednesday evening.
A tied first period found Sioux City's Dylan Godbout scoring first, 7:21 into the period. In his United States Hockey League debut, Sioux Falls forward Tyler Borgula answered back with his first USHL goal at the 11:29 mark, tying the scoreboard at one a piece heading into the second period.
Heroic, breakaway goals were the trend of the evening, beginning with Will McDonough's lone second period goal after a loose puck found the Massachusetts native heading in for the breakaway goal.
Forward, Isaac Gordon, was the first to score in the third period, ultimately marking the Stampede's game winning goal off of another breakaway run. Trying to lessen the Herd's lead, Sioux City's Grant Slukynsky marked the Musketeers' second goal of the evening. Finally, the newly back from their time on Team USA duo, Sam Harris and Maddox Fleming, closed out the game with a pass from Fleming to Harris for an empty net goal, cementing the Stampede's 4-2 win.
On the goaltending front, Jackson Irving earned his position as the number one star, stopping over 40 shots-on-net.
