Stampede defeat Wild 7-4

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Stampede put up seven goals against the BCHL's Wenatchee Wild on Friday night at the SCHEELS IcePlex. The exhibition game saw six different goal scorers for the Herd, with Jaksen Panzer tallying two goals while Brady Yakesh put up a goal and two assists and netminder Jackson Irving stood strong between the pipes.

After a quiet first 20 minutes that saw neither team score, the Wenatchee Wild were the first on the board early into the second period on the power play. Yakesh would answer back for the Stampede with 13:49 remaining in the period with helpers from Maddox Fleming and Micah Berger. Michael LaStarza added a tally less than three minutes later, taking a pass right in front of the net from Noah Andersson. Shortly after going onto the penalty kill, Panzer knocked in his own rebound shorthanded to make it 3-1.

The Stampede weren't done there, though, as the flood gates were now open. Ryan Gordon tipped the puck into the Wild's net two minutes later, and Berger would make an unassisted tally with just 56 seconds remaining in the period to give the Stampede a 5-1 lead as they headed to the locker room, outshooting Wenatchee 28-9 after 40 minutes of play.

The third period had a fairly quiet start until 6:22 remaining, when Wenatchee made it 5-2 with an shorthanded goal. The Stampede answered back less than two minutes later when Panzer took a shot on the left side of the net off a pass from Nick Ring. The Wild would then score two more goals in the remaining four minutes before pulling their goalie for the extra attacker, in which Will McDonough shot the puck into the empty net to give the Herd a 7-4 victory.

The Stampede are on the road to Fargo tomorrow to wrap up their preseason schedule with a tilt against the Force at 7 PM.
