SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—The Sioux Falls Stampede hockey club fell, 1-3, during game one of a two-game series in Fargo, N.D. Friday evening. Sioux Falls moves to 13-19-1 this season with a conference record of 11-18-1.
With almost 13 minutes off of the first period clock, Fargo's JP Turner found the Force their first goal of the night off an assist from Kyle Smolen.
The second period showed to be more eventful with a goal from the Stampede and the Force. Fargo's Smolen marked his first goal of the night, during a Stampede penalty kill 7:37 into the period. Just 15 seconds later, the Stampede got on the board with a goal from forward Will McDonough. McDonough's goal came from a powerplay advantage off assists from Evan Murr and Ryan Gordon. The score sat at 1-2 heading into the third period.
The final 20 minutes of the matchup saw one more Fargo goal from Smolen, marking his third point, with assists to Charlie Russell and Girts Silkalns.
Sioux Falls' Xavier Medina found the start for the Herd, adding adding 24 saves to his record card and three goals against. He is now 8-8-2 this season and holds a .915 save percentage with a 2.84 goals against average.
The Stampede and Force will meet again Saturday evening at 6:05 p.m. at Scheels Arena. Next weekend the team travels to Omaha, Neb. for a two-game series against the Lancers.
