FARGO, N.D.—The Sioux Falls Stampede hockey club earned two points in the United States Hockey League standings after a 3-1 win over the Fargo Force Saturday evening. The Stampede split the weekend after a 1-3 loss the previous night.
The first period's scoreboard saw a lone goal from the Stampede. Isaac Gordon earned the first goal of the night off of a one-timer on the powerplay. He was assisted by Evan Murr and Adam Zlnka.
Period two saw similar results from the Herd with Maxim Strbak scoring his fourth goal of the season just 2:40 into the period. Strbak's goal was set up by Nick Ring, marking Ring's 21
st assist of the season, and Evan Murr.
The scoreboard was split during the third period, each team marking one goal. Fargo's Cole Knuble was the first to score 16:26 into the period, decreasing the Herd's lead to one goal. With 1:30 left in the game, Fargo pulled Anton Castro from their net and allowed Will McDonough to mark his second goal of the night at the 19:22 mark. McDonough's empty-net goal was assisted by Noah Andersson.
On the Stampede's goaltending front, Xavier Medina earned his ninth win of the season. Medina marked 30 saves on 31 shots. He now holds a record of 9-8-2 this season with a save percentage of .917 and goals against average of 2.74.
The Herd now travels to Omaha, Neb. next Friday and Saturday to take on the Lancers. They will then take a single-day road trip to Lincoln, Neb. on February 3
