LINCOLN, NEB.—The Sioux Falls Stampede Hockey Club earned a single point during its 2-1, overtime loss to the Lincoln Stars Friday evening. The Herd's lone goal came from forward Isaac Gordon during the second period.
A scoreless first period set the teams up to battle for points in United States Hockey League play during the second and third frames. Isaac Gordon opened up the scoring on a goal with 5:57 left in the second period. Gordon's goal marked his 12
th of the season and earned Maxim Strbak his 12
th assist. Four minutes later, Lincoln's Antonio Fernandez tied the scoreboard at one.
The third period looked similar to the first, this time with the score stale at one each, sending the teams into an extra five minutes of sudden-death, overtime hockey. During this three-on-three period, both teams managed to keep the other out of their net until five seconds remained on the clock. At this point, Fernandez buried his second goal of the night, ending the matchup.
Xavier Medina, who was selected as the game's second star, marked 49 saves on 51 shots-on-goal during his 64:55 between the pipes. Medina is now 11-10-3 this season and holds a .921 save percentage with 716 saves and a goals-against average of 2.63 per game.
The Stampede and Stars meet again on Saturday evening at the Denny Sanford Premier Center to close out the pair's regular season matchups.
