SIOUX FALLS, S.D.— The Sioux Falls Stampede marked another win Tuesday evening as the team took down the Tri-City Storm, 5-4, in overtime. Beckett Hendrickson tallied both the first and last goals of the night, while Jordan Geike found his first of his career and defensemen Alex Rybakov and Artur Cholach each added their own. Michael Chambre tabbed his 15th win of the season, pushing the Herd to 21-15-3-1 in the USHL.
The Herd thought it would take a very early lead in the first period when a shot from Egor Barabanov found its way to the Storm's net and was ruled a goal. After review, this goal was overturned as it was said to have hit off the goalpost and not into the net. Beckett Hendrickson settled this score at the 4:04 mark when he was able to land a shot, set up by Chris Pelosi, into the back of Cameron Korpi's net. Around 10 minutes later, the Storm was able land a puck behind Michael Chambre, tying the game up heading into the second frame.
Tri-City pulled ahead early in the second period with a goal from Trevor Connelly at the 2:14 mark. Vladislav Lukashevich added to the Storm's lead near the end of the frame, making it 3-1 in favor of Tri-City. Jordan Geike answered back less than 20 seconds later, scoring the first of his USHL career, assisted by Hayden Reid. The period ended with the Herd down by one goal, 3-2.
With his fourth of the season, Alex Rybakov tied the game up just 1:44 into the final frame of regulation. His goal, assisted by Beckett Hendrickson and Chris Pelosi, was during a four-on-four drive caused by TC's Trevor Connelly and the Herd's Artur Cholach being called for embellishment and tripping, respectively. As the period played on, the penalty box would see five more penalties, two on the Herd and three on the Storm. The last two, coincidental minors on Beckett Hendrickson and Charlie Kinsman for roughing, gave Tri-City the lead with 3:41 remaining in the game. Just as the Herd thought it'd be counted out, Artur Cholach netted his third goal of the season, helpers from Jaksen Panzer and JJ Wiebusch, tying the game up at 4-4.
With three players from each team on the ice, the Herd was able to find the back of the net just 47 seconds into the overtime period when Beckett Hendrickson found a pass from Chris Pelosi and netted the puck on the stick side of Cameron Korpi. This marked the Herd's second overtime win in its third straight overtime game.
Michael Chambre marked his 15th win for the Herd this evening, stopping 23-of-27 shots on his net for a save percentage of .852. The goals-against average of 3.95 moved his overall GAA to 3.19 and save percentage to .888. Chambre now holds a record of 15-6-2-1 this season and 22-18-2-1 in his USHL career.
