John McNelis and
Sam Spehar secured the victory for tonight. Goaltender
Aiden Wright stayed strong and only let 1 past, making 23 stops and maintaining a 1.00 GAA.
The game got out to a slow start for the Stampede, struggling to connect to make plays. This changed at 11:06 when
Jake Merens got the rebound from
Gennadi Chaly and got the wrap-around goal. Goaltender
Aiden Wright kept the Stampede momentum going, making great saves throughout the period. All season, the Herd have struggled on the power play which continued tonight at 17:42 when Omaha's Noah Jones was called for tripping. With 11 seconds remaining on the power play,
Bryce Ingles received a holding penalty at 19:31, sending him to the penalty box and ending the period on the kill. Despite the up-and-down start, the Herd were able to finish the period with 11 shots on goal and holding the Lancers to 7.
Momentum carried into the second period, allowing the Stampede to kill the remainder of Ingles' penalty. However, after the kill, their momentum slowed as they continued to struggle with their power play at 7:10. Omaha took advantage of this shift in energy and, at 15:20 got on the board. The Herd soon found their rhythm again, regaining control of the puck. This resurgence was evident at 16:42 when
Bryce Ingles netted a goal following a series of passes from
John McNelis and
Joe Belisle. The Stampede maintained their control, and at 19:54,
John McNelis deflected a shot from Aleksandr Rybakov into the net, securing a lead to finish the period. The Stampede continued to buzz with energy, outshooting Omaha from 15 shots on goal to 12.
The final period saw little action from either team. Both teams saw great opportunities but were left unable to capitalize. It was a clean period with zero penalties coming from either team.
Aiden Wright continued to make clutch saves between the pipes to keep the lead for the Herd.
John McNelis earned his third point of the night when he sent the puck forward where it met
Sam Spehar who took it for the empty netter.
Aiden Wright made 23 saves in his 10th goal of the season. Wright's record moves to 7-3-1 and moves his save percentage to .905.
