The All-American Game is an annual event that began in 2012 and is hosted by USA Hockey at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, MI. This game showcases the top American-born prospects eligible for the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. Team White and Team Blue will feature players from the US National Team Development Program and the United States Hockey League. Since its inception, the event has showcased 321 NHL Draft picks, including 70 first-round selections.
Stampede leading scorer
Ethan Wyttenbach was named to the All-American Game on December 26th. Wyttenbach, currently tied as the top rookie point scorer with 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists), is a Quinnipiac commit in his first season with the Stampede. Before joining the team, he developed his skills with the Long Island Gulls organization. This week, Wyttenbach was the only current Stampede player listed in the NHL Central Scouting Midterm Rankings. He will wear number 15 for Team Blue in tonight's game.
Stampede forward
Sam Spehar was added to the Chipotle All-American Team Blue roster this week. The Chaska, MN, native joined the Stampede after being acquired from the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the offseason, where he recorded four points in 11 games. Last season, Spehar excelled with the Sioux Falls Power U16 AAA team, notching 66 points (32 goals, 34 assists) in 37 games. This season, the 5'8" forward has tallied 22 points in just 27 games for the Herd. Spehar, committed to the University of Denver, will wear number 21 for Team Blue tonight.
Head Coach Ryan Cruthers will be behind the bench for Team White, facing off against his own players. Cruthers was named Head Coach of Team White earlier this month, marking an impressive return to the Stampede bench. After spending the 2023-24 season with the Fayetteville Marksmen (SPHL), Cruthers rejoined the Stampede, this time as head coach. Under his leadership, the team has had one of the best starts in its history, boasting a 22-7-1-1 record at the halfway mark and claiming the top spot in the Western Conference.
The rest of the Herd will join these three in Plymouth this weekend to take on the USA NTDP U17s. They will face off at USA Hockey Arena at 6:00 PM CST on Saturday and 1:00 PM CST on Sunday. This weekend's games will not be available on FloHockey but can instead be streamed for free on USA Hockey TV.
