Sioux Falls, S.D. – After twenty games over three days, the Stampede made their selections for the first two All-Star games. The players competing in tonight's All-Star games were fighting for the opportunity to claim the remaining spots in tomorrow's finale.
The first All-Star game of Main Camp started slowly, with both teams generating opportunities around the net. Sioux Falls Power goaltenders Aidan Hesse and
Kaenan Smith came up big to keep the score even early on. Team Prosser broke the ice 16:54 into the first half when Hudson Cariveau netted his first goal of the weekend, assisted by Jacob Jett. Team Oshie responded a couple of minutes later when Brown commit Payne Riffey ripped one from the left faceoff dot. Team Prosser regained the lead before the end of the half with a goal from Rylan Hanson, assisted by Timurs Malisevs.
Malisevs kept the momentum going, scoring one of his own just 1:13 into the second half. Liam McGuire earned the primary assist, while Jacob Jett notched his second point of the night. While Team Prosser appeared to control the game, Team Oshie responded with two quick goals to tie it up. Hunter Doroff scored the first, assisted by Evan Ferraro and Dean Zarro. Mark Schaefer followed with the equalizer, assisted by Payne Riffey. Just like in the first half, Team Prosser struck again in the final minute. Dominik Mack scored the game-winner unassisted with just 40 seconds remaining.
The second All-Star game of the evening started fast, with Cooper Deziel scoring just 1:08 into the game to give Team Vanek an early advantage. Things slowed down until midway through the half when Denis Kuzmenkov was awarded a penalty shot after being slashed by Team Vanek. Augustana commit Charles Menard came up with the stop. The pace remained slow until 2:49 into the second half, when Team LaRose tied the game with a goal from Trey Dionne, assisted by Cade Kinnear and Ronan Howard. Penalty shots for each team brought the game to a 2–2 tie—Matteo Alvarez scored for Team LaRose, while Leon Buzek converted for Team Vanek.
The game remained deadlocked at the end of regulation and headed into 3-on-3 overtime. There, Cameron Garrity scored the game-winner for Team LaRose, assisted by JP Saddy and Max Davis.
Main Camp wraps up tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., when Team Gold and Team Blue face off. Rosters will be available later tonight.
