Monteiro and McGraw Named Co-Captains for 2025-26 Season

Sioux Falls, S.D. — The Sioux Falls Stampede announced Wednesday that forwards JJ Monteiro and Joseph McGraw have been selected as co-captains for the 2025-26 season, a decision that reflects their leadership on and off the ice.

Monteiro enters his second season in Sioux Falls after being acquired in a trade from the Waterloo Black Hawks midway through the 2024-25 campaign. The Hudson, Mass., native quickly made an impact, posting 20 points (7g, 13a) and a +6 rating in just 30 games with the Herd. One of his standout moments came on February 28, when his hat trick propelled the Stampede to a 4-2 victory over the Des Moines Buccaneers. Monteiro, a Providence College commit, carried that momentum into the postseason with a three-point effort in four games. Having worn an “A” late last season, Monteiro now takes the next step in his leadership journey by wearing the “C” this year.

McGraw, also entering his second season with the Stampede, proved himself as both a playmaker and a clutch performer in 2024-25. The Sugar Land, Texas, native recorded 16 points (7g, 9a) in 23 regular-season games before elevating his game in the playoffs, where he contributed five points, including a memorable hat trick in the team’s final contest. A future Buckeye, McGraw’s commitment to The Ohio State University underscores his high-level potential. This season, he’ll serve as a captain for the first time in his Stampede career.

Head coach Ryan Cruthers praised both players for their commitment to the Stampede culture and program as a whole.

“Two Cs that have gone above and beyond to help continue to build the culture that we started last year. They also made the decision to come back and continue to grow this program and ultimately, leave it better than they found it.”

The Stampede begin their 2025-26 campaign tomorrow afternoon at the USHL Fall Classic, taking on the Chicago Steel at 3:30 p.m. CT. Fans can follow the action live on FloHockey.
