GREEN BAY, W.I. — The Sioux Falls Stampede are looking to right the ship, and a 4-2 win is a great start to doing just that, as the Herd defeated the Green Bay Gamblers in the first of the weekend series on the road.
Tim Tuzin opened the scoring at 15:45 into the first period, receiving a short feed from
Cooper Soller (TBL) before heading to the net and chipping the puck just over Green Bay's Joey Slavick's shoulder.
The second period saw a late-period goal for the Stampede, with
Ryland Rooney (2027) sending a clean pass to
Max Davis, who fired a wrist shot from the inner top of the circle to give the Herd a two-goal lead.
Period three started a little shaky for the Stampede, as only 19 seconds into the frame, Nick Knutson picked up his second of the season to pull the Gamblers within one. It wasn't until there was 4:25 left on the clock that Green Bay found success on the power play, with Luke Pietila tying the game 2-2. However, it was all about the response for the Herd at that point, and
Ethan Sung (2027) answered the call and restored the Sioux Falls lead just 1:25 after Pietila evened the score. With 29 seconds remaining in regulation, Davis would feed a pass to
Joey Macrina, with the Green Bay net empty, and Macrina put the game to bed, making it a 4-2 Sioux Falls victory.
Green Bay's Joey Slavick made 34 saves on 37 shots in the loss, while in the Sioux Falls net,
Ilya Nikitins (2027) picked up his third win of the season, stopping 17-of-19 shots he faced.
The Sioux Falls Stampede ended a two-game losing skid and are set to face the Gamblers again tomorrow, October 31, for a 1:05 PM CT puck drop at the Resch Center in Green Bay, WI.
