Series Update:
Stampede lead 1-0
A big first period propelled the Stampede to a Game 1 victory over Fargo Friday night at the PREMIER Center. The Herd scored four goals in the first 12 minutes of the game and never looked back in a 6-2 victory.
Brent Solomon, J.J. Monteiro,
Jake Prunty and
Brock Schultz all scored first period goals.
Anthony Bongo added a goal 15 minutes into period two to extend the lead to 5-0 before Fargo got on the board with one minute left in the period. The Force struck again at 7:05 of the third period on a breakaway goal from Saxton Tess. That would be as close as the Force would get as
Linards Feldbergs shut the door from there and Sioux Falls put the game away for good when Monteiro tallied his second of the night at 12:48. Sioux Falls outshot the Force 43-24 in the game while going 2-for-6 on the power play.
Tonight, Sioux Falls has a chance to take a 2-0 series lead while Fargo looks to earn a split before the series shifts to Fargo next weekend. The Force went 6-2-0 against the Stampede in the regular season, but the Herd have now won back-to-back games over the Force (including regular season) and have outscored them 13-4 in those games.
