An alumni of the Ohio State University Buckeyes, Dustin Carlson joins the Stampede for his first season in 2023-24 after spending time as a volunteer assistant coach for the Buckeyes since 2017.
Since joining the Buckeyes on the staff, Ohio State produced two Mike Richter Award semifinalists in Sean Romeo (2018) and Tommy Nappier (2019). Nappier was the 2019 Big Ten Goalie of the Year and Romeo was the 2018 NCAA Midwest Regional Most Outstanding Player. Both goalies earned All-Big Ten honors.
Carlson, a native of Forest Lake , Minn., played in 71 games for the Buckeyes from 2008-11 and now ranks eighth in program history with a career 2.71 goals-against average. His save percentage of .913 is now tied for seventh in program history and his save percentage of .917 in 2009 was among the Top 10 for a single season in school history when he finished his career. His 21 wins in 2009, including four shutouts, are the fourth highest for a Buckeye and that season he had 1,014 saves, the fifth highest in a single campaign, and played 2206:15 between the pipes, the fifth-most in a single year for the Scarlet and Gray.
Following his Ohio State career, Carlson played five professional games in ECHL Idaho that spring and spent the next five years playing professionally in the ECHL, SPHL and FHL.
Carlson graduated from Ohio State through the athletics department’s degree completion program in 2019.
Dustin and his new wife Kelsey were recently married in July of 2023.
