In 2014, Jordan graduated from Northwestern College (IA) with a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training. He earned his master's degree in Kinesiology and Sports Psychology in 2017 from A.T. Still University.

Whitsell started his career doing volunteer work and short stints with USA Wrestling. Whitsell received an opportunity to go work at Simley High School (MN) in 2014 with the Nationally ranked and State Champion Simley Spartan wrestling team. Whitsell returned back to his home state of Iowa to work at Sioux City East High School, in 2018, while also covering the Sioux City Metros Hockey Team. In 2020, he started his hockey athletic training career with the Division 1 University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves under Head Coach Matt Curley. Mid COVID-19 the State of Alaska was restricted so Whitsell traveled back to the Midwest and started his next journey with Orthopedic Institute and the Sioux Falls Stampede Hockey Club in July 2020. Jordan is in currently in his 4th year working with the Sioux Falls Stampede.
