Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Sioux Falls Stampede will take on their first three-in-three series of the season this weekend, beginning Friday night in Sioux City, Iowa. After facing off against the Musketeers, the Stampede will return home to host the Omaha Lancers for Scooby-Doo Howl-o-ween Night presented by
Dental Solutions on Saturday, followed by a Sunday matchup against the Des Moines Buccaneers for Wizards' Night presented by
Graham Tire.
The Stampede enter the weekend atop the Western Conference after earning three points last weekend against the Lancers. Following an overtime loss on Friday, the Herd bounced back with a 4–3 victory on Saturday, powered by two second-period power-play goals from
Logan Renkowski.
Cooper Soller opened the scoring at 19:33 of the first period with his fourth goal of the season. After Renkowski's pair of goals,
Thomas Zocco netted his first of the season in the third period to secure the win.
Rookie defenseman Jake Prunty had an impressive outing in just his second USHL start, tallying three assists. Goaltender
Waylon Esche made his first start since September 18, stopping 22 shots to earn his first win of the season and improve to 1-1-0-0 with a .843 save percentage. The victory moved the Stampede to 4-2-1-0 on the season.
The Stampede and Musketeers last met on Friday, October 3, during Sioux City's home opener. In that matchup, the Stampede fell 5–4 after a strong second-period comeback by the Musketeers.
Brent Solomon opened the scoring for Sioux Falls at 8:34 of the first, but Sioux City answered quickly at 11:38. The Musketeers then added two power-play goals early in the second to take a 3–1 lead before Soller and
Adyn Merrick scored to tie the game heading into the third. Sioux City's Trey Jefferis regained the lead at 15:05 and later sealed the win with an empty-net goal. With just 10 seconds remaining,
Joey Macrina scored his first USHL goal on a backdoor shot, but the late effort came up short.
The Omaha Lancers currently sit at 2-6-0-0 after earning their first win since September 18 last Friday at the PREMIER Center. The Lancers host the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders tonight before taking on the Tri-City Storm on Friday. They will then travel to Sioux Falls for another matchup with the Herd.
To close out the weekend, the Stampede will face the 3-2-0-2 Des Moines Buccaneers for the first time this season. The Buccaneers defeated Sioux City 5–3 last Saturday at the Tyson Events Center. After taking a 1–0 lead into the first intermission, Des Moines held off the Musketeers' rally and sealed the win with an empty-net goal from Rhys Wallin. The Buccaneers carried that momentum into Sunday's matchup against the Tri-City Storm, earning a dominant 5–0 victory with two goals in each of the first two periods and an early third-period tally. Before heading to Sioux Falls, Des Moines will face the Fargo Force at Scheels Arena in Fargo, N.D.
Saturday marks the Stampede's annual Trick-or-Treat Game at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center — this year featuring a Scooby-Doo twist.
