Sioux Falls, S.D. – Sioux Falls Stampede forward
Brent Solomon and defenseman
Jake Prunty have been named USHL Forward of the Week and USHL Defenseman of the Week, respectively.
Solomon earned the honor after posting an eight-point weekend during the Stampede's first three-in-three series of the season. His production started early on Friday night when the Champlin, M.N., native scored the Herd's first goal just 3:51 into the contest with a wrist shot from the high slot. He later added an assist on a slick feed to
JJ Monteiro, who buried the goal.
The University of Wisconsin commit matched that performance on Saturday, picking up a secondary assist on
Joey Macrina's power-play tally before scoring one of his own on the man advantage.
Solomon capped off the weekend with a four-point performance on Sunday against the Des Moines Buccaneers. At 15:06 of the first period, he notched another power-play goal from the high slot. He added two more goals in the second period—including one scored midair—to record his first career USHL hat trick. Solomon also added a power-play assist on a
Logan Renkowski goal, wrapping up an impressive six-point weekend.
Stampede rookie defenseman
Jake Prunty claimed Defenseman of the Week honors in just his second weekend in the USHL. The University of Massachusetts commit has opened his rookie campaign on a five-game point streak, collecting six points this past weekend.
On Friday night, Prunty registered his second consecutive three-assist game. His first came on a quick feed to
Thomas Zocco for a power-play goal, followed by a long stretch pass to Solomon that set up Monteiro's tally. He added a third assist with a pass to
Joey Macrina, who scored the team's second power-play goal of the night.
The Lake Hopatcong, N.J., native continued his strong play throughout the weekend, adding two more primary assists on Saturday—including another power-play helper. His first came on a point shot that
Cooper Soller redirected for a goal, while a quick feed down low set up another tally. On Sunday, Prunty and Solomon connected once more when Prunty sent a saucer pass up ice for Solomon's third goal of the game, completing the 2009-born defenseman's six-point weekend.
Solomon, Prunty, and the rest of the Herd return to the ice Saturday night for the Stampede's annual Military Appreciation Night, presented by Royal River Casino & Hotel. The first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive a Stampede–American Flag hat.
In partnership with local businesses, the Stampede are also offering free tickets to veterans, active-duty military members, and their families. Service members can stop by the Stampede office throughout the week to redeem their tickets.
