SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Stampede forward
Brock Schultz has been named the United States Hockey League Forward of the Week after putting up seven points in two games against the Madison Capitols.
The Stampede acquired Schultz on Wednesday, November 5, from the Waterloo Black Hawks in exchange for the rights to goaltender Michael Chambre. In his eleven games with the Herd, the East Grand Forks, Minn., native has tallied seventeen points, including seven this weekend against the Madison Capitols. Schultz is currently on a nine-game point streak, recording at least one point in every game since his second weekend with the Herd.
The University of North Dakota commit nearly doubled his points with Waterloo this weekend against the Madison Capitols. On Friday night, the 2005-born forward netted a goal at 16:45 of the second period to give the Herd their first lead of the night. The goal came on an impressive play in which Schultz took the puck from below the goal line and fired a shot from the right low slot. That same night, he assisted on goals by
Joey Macrina and
Thomas Zocco to complete a three-point performance. He improved on that showing Saturday with two goals and two assists.
In the first period, he netted a power-play goal thanks to a deke pass from
Anthony Bongo and a quick release from Schultz. He nearly sealed the Herd's win with the team's seventh goal just 29 seconds into the third period. That goal came from the middle of the slot, where a slight dangle from Schultz sent the puck five-hole. Schultz also assisted on the team's first goal of the night and added a power-play helper on
Logan Renkowski's second-period tally. The four-point performance earned him the first star of the game and the second star of the night across the USHL.
Schultz will look to keep his point streak — and his impressive start with the Herd — rolling tomorrow night as they take on the Lincoln Stars. The Dollar Dog Night game, presented by Fareway, provides the Stampede with a great opportunity to solidify their position atop the Western Conference standings.
