Series Preview: Stampede (43-16-3) vs Lincoln (28-29-5)
After a first-round bye, the Stampede hit the ice to square off against the Lincoln Stars in a Western Conference Semi-Final series. Lincoln advanced after topping the Des Moines Buccaneers 2 games to 1 in a best-of-three series last weekend in Des Moines.
The Stampede put together a record-breaking regular season and are hoping to carry that over into the postseason. The club finished with 89 points (third most in team history) and posted back-to-back 40+ wins for the first time in franchise history, Offensively, the Herd tied a franchise record for most goals in a season with 267 and had eight players finish with 40 more points, the most of any team in the USHL. The club allowed just 173 goals, the second fewest in franchise history and their goal differential of +94 was a new team record.
Thomas Zocco led the team up front with 70 points and
Logan Renkowski finished the season with the second most goals in a single season in Stampede history with 43.
Cooper Soller is up for Rookie of the Year in the USHL after leading all rookie scorers in points (49), goals (26) and appeared in all 62 games this season.
Jake Prunty led all rookie defenseman in points (37), assists (33) and points per-game (.84). In goal,
Linards Feldbergs tied a franchise record with 35 wins while logging the most minutes in the league (2,942) and the most shots faced (1,361), He ended the regular season with a .910 save percentage (5
th best in the USHL).
Lincoln struggled at the end of the regular season, dropping their final four games to fall into fifth place in the West. They lost the series opener at Des Moines by a score of 3-2, but with their season on the line they posted an impressive 8-4 thumping of Des Moines in Game 2 and then closed out the series with a 6-3 victory in Game 3 to advance to the conference semi-final. The Stars have an impressive offense with two of the top three scores in the USHL. Alex Pelletier led the league in scoring with 85 points during the regular season as well as goals scored with 48. Layne Loomer finished third with 72 points (30g, 42a) in 59 games.
Sioux Falls went 5-1-0 against the Stars during the regular season.
