The Sioux Falls Stampede announced Monday they have acquired goaltender
Xavier Medina from the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
Medina went 18-8-3 with a 3.05 Goals-Against-Average (GAA) and a .891 save percentage in 30 games last season with Windsor. He appeared in five playoff games, going 3-2-0 with a 2.03 GAA and a .935 save percentage while guiding the Spitfires to the OHL Final. He was named OHL Goaltender of the Week in June for his playoff performance.
Prior to his time in Windsor, the Detroit, Mich. native spent the 2018-19 season with the Oakland Jr. Grizzles 18U AAA program where he went 27-19-5 with a 1.81 GAA. He went on to play later that season with Jr. Grizzles HPHL team where he went 8-1-0 with a 1.21 GAA and a .951 save percentage.
The 6-foot, 181-pound netminder is 20 years-old and grew up playing for Little Caesars, Belle Tire and Honeybaked AAA clubs.
In order to make room on the roster, the Stampede have released Tucker Tynan. Medina will practice with the Stampede this week and will be available for Friday's game against the Waterloo Black Hawks at the PREMIER Center. Puck drop is 7:05 PM and it is
