YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO— The Sioux Falls Stampede was unable to find the win column against the Youngstown Phantoms during the pairing's two-game weekend in Ohio. The Herd fell, 6-3, on night two after being short just one goal the night before.
Similarly, to the previous night's first period, Youngstown started the scoring early, tabbing a goal 1:04 into the night on a shorthanded attempt. Sioux Falls'
Matheson Mason found his first career USHL goal around four minutes later, the second Stampede player to mark their first career goal this weekend. Assisted by
Gennadi Chaly and
Jordan Geike, Mason's goal tied the game up at one. Youngstown then scored two more goals before the end of the period, forcing the Stampede to work even harder in the second.
The second period saw half the amount of scoreboard changes with just one goal from each team. After the Phantoms found their goal around three minutes into the period, the Stampede fought back. At the 16:15 mark,
Chris Pelosi, assisted by
Gennadi Chaly and Kaz Sobieski, added to the Stampede's score on the powerplay.
Finally, the third period's scoring was cut in half once again with just the Stampede finding the back of the net.
Gennadi Chaly marked his third goal of the season with help from
Tyler Borgula on the powerplay.
The Stampede continued its record of high-shooting games with 33 shots on net. Youngstown's Colin Winn stopped 30 of those shots with a .909 save percentage. In net for the Herd,
Caleb Heil tallied his third loss this season with a .815 save percentage (22-for-27) and 5.21 GAA.
