SIOUX FALLS, S.D.— The Sioux Falls Stampede was stopped by the Sioux City Musketeers on Tuesday evening after a final score of 5-3 in favor of the Musketeers.
John McNelis started the scoring for the Herd, while
Tyler Borgula and
Gennadi Chaly each added one of their own.
The Herd was held off the board in the first period with just one goal from Sioux City at 51 seconds remaining in the period. The Stampede outshot the Musketeers, 7-4, but was unable to find the back of the net on any of them. Both teams had two powerplay opportunities during the first frame, but they were both unable to create any movement on the scoreboard.
The Musketeers started the second frame off with a goal just 1:16 into the period. Adding to their lead again, Sioux City increased to 3-0 on a powerplay opportunity at 8:27. The Herd's
John McNelis finally found the net just 17 seconds later at 8:44 and moved the Musketeers' lead back down to two goals. With a tendency to out shoot opponents, no matter the score, the Stampede put up 13 more shots for a two-period total of 20 versus Sioux City's seven.
The Herd came back in the final frame and was able to pull closer to the Musketeers with
Tyler Borgula and
Gennadi Chaly finding the teams second and third goals, respectively. Chaly's goal brought the Herd within one goal on the powerplay, assisted by
JJ Wiebusch and
Will McDonough. After the Stampede pulled goaltender
Michael Chambre with 2:18 left to go in regulation, the Musketeers were able to tally one final goal to seal the win. The cumulative season series now sits at 2-1-1 in favor of the Herd.
Michael Chambre earned just nine saves while in net for the Herd. By allowing four goals, he marked a .692 save percentage, dropping his overall save percentage to .889. Chambre is now 7-3-1-1 this season and 14-15-1-1 in his USHL career.
