Stampede flips script on Stars

LINCOLN, NEB.— The Sioux Falls Stampede earned two points in USHL Western Conference standings on Saturday night with a 5-2 win over the Lincoln Stars. Chris Pelosi led the Herd's offense with two goals, while Jake Toll, Micah Berger and Gennadi Chaly each tabbed their own. Michael Chambre earned another win while in net for the Herd.

Similar to the night before, the first period saw no movement on the scoreboard with both teams struggling to find the back of the net. The Herd and Stars both marked seven shots on goal in the first period. On the penalty box side of the ice, the Stampede was served with a two-minute penalty kill after Egor Barabanov was called for a trip.

The second period found another tie, with both teams earning a goal. Chris Pelosi found his first of the night with 3:51 to play in the period, on the powerplay caused by a holding call on Lincoln's Tanner Henricks. The Herd out shot the Stars in the second frame, 12-5.

Things started heating up in the final frame when the Herd eared four more goals against the Stars' one. Pelosi found his second goal of the night 6:23 into the frame, off an assist from Tyler Borgula. Jake Toll then added to the lead with help from Jaksen Panzer, making it 3-1. Lincoln was able to answer back a few minutes later on the powerplay. Around 2:25 minutes later, Micah Berger grabbed his sixth of the season off a helper from Zach Nehring. Finally, the Stars pulled their goaltender, Yan Shostak, and Gennadi Chaly was able to find the empty net off of a faceoff won by Noah Eyre.

Getting back in the win column, Michael Chambre earned his 13th win of the season. He was able to stop 22-of-24 shots on his net for a save percentage of .917. A goals-against average of 2.00 moved his cumulative GAA to 3.18 this season. Chambre now has a total record of 13-6-1-1 this season.

Next week, the team makes a trek to Dallas, Texas for the Frosty Cup. The Herd will take on the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Jan. 25 and 26 at Comerica Center and American Airlines Center, respectively. Tickets for all Stampede home games are available now through the KELOLAND box office, Stampede office, or any Ticketmaster outlets.
