Herd and Fighting Saints split Frosty Cup series

DALLAS, TEXAS— The Sioux Falls Stampede and Dubuque Fighting Saints ended the Frosty cup with a split after the Herd fell to the Saints, 3-2, in overtime on Friday night. Jaksen Panzer earned his third goal of the series, with Beckett Hendrickson finding his second. Michael Chambre battled between the pipes, earning 29 saves on 32 shots.

The first period was all Stampede as the team would score the only goal in the first 20 minutes. After being served with a two-minute minor for high sticking just 40 seconds into the game, Beckett Hendrickson would come out of the penalty box and score over the course of nine seconds. The Stampede found eight shots on goal in the first, just one behind Dubuque's nine.

The Herd pulled ahead even farther at the start of the second frame when Jaksen Panzer tabbed his third goal of the series, with help from JJ Wiebusch and John McNelis 5:48 into the period. At 8:03, Dubuque was served with a minor penalty, taking the man-down disadvantage. The Saints' James Reeder then found himself on a breakaway that led to a puck in the back of Chambre's net, scoring a shorthanded goal for Dubuque. The Saints scored again three-fourths of the way through the period to tie the game.

A scoreless final frame of regulation forced the second overtime in a row for the two teams. Just over two minutes into the three-on-three, five-minute period, Dubuque's Michael Barron slid a puck past Chambre to seal the win for the Saints, splitting the series 1-1 with each team earning three total points in the USHL standings.

Michael Chambre is now 14-6-2-1 this season with a cumulative goals-against average of 3.16 and save percentage of .889. The goaltender was able to prevent 29-of-32 shots from entering his net for a save percentage of .906 and goals-against average of 2.90, his third consecutive game of having a GAA of less than 3.00.

The Herd now heads back to the Midwest to host three home games at the PREMIER Center. This week starts with a 7 :05 p.m. matchup against the Tri-City Storm on Tuesday night. The team then hosts Fargo for a series on Friday and Saturday. More information on the games will be available Monday.  Tickets for all Stampede home games are available now through the KELOLAND box office, Stampede office, or any Ticketmaster outlets.
