SIOUX FALLS, S.D.— The Sioux Falls fell to the Green Bay Gamblers on Hockey Talks Night. The back-and-forth game saw two goals from forward JJ Wiebusch with additional tallies from Beckett Hendrickson and Will McDonough. Michael Chambre was served with the loss on the night, stopping 21-of-26 shots on his net.
In his 100th career United States Hockey League game, Stampede forward JJ Wiebusch kicked off the scoring 9:31 into the period, his 21st of the season. Wiebusch was assisted by Beckett Hendrickson and Joe Belisle. Around six minutes later, Green Bay answered back with a goal of their own, tying it at one. The Gamblers scored once more, on a powerplay, with 52 seconds remaining in the period.
Wiebusch led the push into the second period when he scored his second of the night midway through the frame, tying it at two goals each. Will McDonough found his eighth goal of the season with under four minutes remaining, regaining the Herd's lead. The Herd dominated the shot count in the second period, with 14 shots on net against the Gamblers' five.
Green Bay's Jayson Shaugabay was able to tie things back up when Stampede goaltender Michael Chambre lost the puck and Shaugabay was able to hit it into the net from behind. Not allowing the tie game to stay that way for long, Beckett Hendrickson, who had already marked two assists this evening, found a goal of his own on a powerplay caused by Green Bay's Chris Romaine being called for high sticking. The Gamblers answered back to tie it again at the 11:26 mark, then regained their lead with under four minutes remaining in the game.
Michael Chambre tabbed a .808 save percentage with the Gamblers finding five goals on 26 shots on net. He moves to 15-9-2-1 this season and holds a cumulative goals-against average of 3.68. His save percentage now sits at .872 this season with 682 saves on 782 shots against.
The Herd and Gamblers meet again tomorrow night during Throwback Night at the PREMIER Center.
