SIOUX FALLS, S.D.— The Sioux Falls Stampede was swept by the Green Bay Gamblers in the final game of this weekend's series before the team heads on a month-long road trip. Tyler Borgula marked the Herd's only goal and the team moved to 21-21-3-1 this season.
Tyler Borgula kicked off the scoring for the Stampede just 4:49 into the period, assisted by Matthew Grimes and Chris Pelosi. The Herd held this lead for just over six minutes until the Gamblers' Rasmus Larsson was able to land the puck behind goaltender Caleb Heil, tying the game. The Gamblers took the lead with 1:39 remaining in the period, making it 2-1 heading into the second.
Green Bay tallied two more goals in the second period before the Stampede chose to switch out goaltenders and put Michael Chambre in net for Heil. Green Bay's Jayson Shaugabay added to the Gamblers' lead on a powerplay caused by a hooking call on Zach Nehring. The game would head to the third period with Green Bay leading 5-1.
With an uneventful first half of the third period, the action finally picked up with a goalie interference call on Grant Dillard, leading to a powerplay goal for Green Bay. With tensions rising, a slurry of penalties were called with 4:30 remaining including: GB Julian Lutz 10-minute misconduct, Libor Nemec two-minutes for roughing and 10-minute misconduct, Joe Belisle two-minutes for roughing and Matthew Grimes with a 10-minute misconduct. Tensions continued to flare until the end with the Stampede ultimately falling, 6-1.
In the last four games, Caleb Heil and Michael Chambre have been forced to split time in net between three of them. Tonight, Heil found the start and marked 32 minutes and 26 seconds between the pipes. He allowed four of Green Bay's goals and a save percentage of .714. Michael Chambre stopped six-of-eight shots on his net for a .750 save percentage this evening.
The Herd now heads on a month-long road trip beginning with Waterloo, Iowa and Urbandale, Iowa next weekend. The next time they'll be at the PREMIER Center is on March 17 for Stomp's Birthday Bash. Tickets for the three remaining Stampede home games are available now through the KELOLAND box office, Stampede office, or any Ticketmaster outlets.
