Colorado Springs, Colo. — USA Hockey announced today the roster for the 2025 U.S. Junior Select Team that will compete at the 2025 World Junior A Challenge from December 7–13, 2025, in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. The Stampede will be well represented, with defenseman
Jake Prunty and forward
Brent Solomon named to the roster, and Head Coach
Ryan Cruthers serving as an assistant coach.
The World Junior A Challenge is an annual international tournament hosted by Hockey Canada, the Canadian Junior Hockey League, and the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Under-20 event will feature four teams: Canada East, Canada West, Sweden, and the United States. Team USA currently leads the all-time medal count with 16 total medals, including 10 gold.
Rookie defenseman
Jake Prunty has made an impressive entrance into the United States Hockey League (USHL). The 16-year-old has recorded 11 assists in just seven games with the Herd. Prunty made his debut on October 10 in Omaha, where he earned his first point. The Lake Hopatcong, N.J., native went on to collect 10 points in his first five games with the team.
Prunty's success extends beyond the Stampede. He is currently tied for second among USHL defensemen in scoring and is the only rookie to appear in the top 20. Additionally, he ranks second in rookie scoring and is the only defenseman on that list. This tournament will not be Prunty's first time representing the United States—this past August, he was named to the U.S. roster for the U17 Four Nations Tournament. In four games, Prunty notched one goal and three assists, helping Team USA earn a silver medal.
Prunty will be joined by fellow Stampede forward
Brent Solomon. The Champlin, Minn., native leads the team in scoring with 20 points (10g, 10a) through 16 games. After earning six points in eight games with the Herd last season, Solomon has had an impressive start to the 2025 campaign. The Detroit Red Wings draft pick has continued his offensive production across the league, currently sitting fifth in scoring—just five points behind the league leader—and ranking among the top 10 in goals. This will mark the University of Wisconsin commit's first time representing Team USA.
Stampede Head Coach
Ryan Cruthers will also represent the organization as an assistant coach. The Farmingdale, N.Y., native guided the Stampede to an impressive 40-win season last year and currently has the Herd competing for the top spot in the Western Conference. Last season, Cruthers served as a head coach in the 2025 USA Hockey Chipotle All-American Game, which featured the top NHL Draft-eligible players from the U.S. Under-18 National Team and the USHL. This will be Cruthers' first USA Hockey tournament behind the bench.
The trio will travel to Trois-Rivières, Quebec, in early December in hopes of bringing home another gold medal for Team USA. They will miss the final five games before the holiday break but are expected to rejoin the Herd at the PREMIER Center on December 28.
