Sioux Falls, S.D. – Sioux Falls Stampede forward
Noah Urness has been named the United States Hockey League (USHL) Forward of the Week after a six-point weekend.
The Roseau, Minn., native played a key role in the Stampede's tenth weekend sweep of the season. On Friday night, he recorded a two-point performance with two assists, including a backhanded pass to
Brent Solomon that got the Herd on the board. The St. Cloud State commit followed it up with a three-point night on Saturday. He once again assisted
Reid Varkonyi, this time on a power-play goal, and later in the game, he set up
Alexei Vlasov for the game-winning goal after maneuvering past the Stars' defensive corps. Urness sealed the Stampede's sweep of the Stars with an empty-net goal from his own goal line. He capped off the stellar weekend with an assist to
Ritter Coombs on Sunday.
The 2005-born forward is in his first USHL season after completing his high school career at Roseau High last year. He now leads the Herd in points and assists, with 46 and 29, respectively. He also ranks second in goals with 17 and is in the top five in +/- rating with a +14. Urness is among the top 20 in assists across the league and top 10 among forwards.
Urness and the Stampede hit the road this Thursday and Friday to take on the Omaha Lancers and Waterloo Blackhawks. The Herd will not return to the PREMIER Center until April 12, when they host the Fargo Force for the final regular-season game.
